TalkShift: An hour to talk about something you’d like to change or work on – or maybe even just to have a listening ear. Book more only if you think it would help.
It’s mentoring, and it isn’t.
It’s life coaching, and it isn’t.
It draws on counselling, but it isn’t therapy.
TalkShift is something simpler: a conversation.
You bring whatever is occupying your thoughts — work, motivation, confidence, productivity, wellbeing, study, relationships with work, changing direction, feeling stuck, slowing down, starting something new, or simply that nagging sense that something needs to change.
We spend an hour talking about it.
There is no programme to complete and no predetermined process. Sometimes you might need someone to listen. Sometimes you might want questions that help you think differently. Sometimes you might want practical ideas, challenge, encouragement or another perspective. We work out what would make the conversation useful to you.
Who am I? I’m Stephen J. Mordue.
I spent twelve years practising as a social worker before moving into higher education, where I have spent the past thirteen years teaching, tutoring and supporting social work students and professionals. I have worked as a Practice Educator, mentoring students in practice, and continue to work with newly qualified social workers undertaking their ASYE.
I’m also a published author whose work explores wellbeing, professional life, learning, reflection and how we might work and live a little more thoughtfully.
I hold qualifications in counselling (Level 4) and hypnotherapy (Level 3), although TalkShift is not a counselling or psychotherapy service. Those studies inform how I listen and ask questions; they do not define the conversation.
ShiftTalk grew out of all of those things.
Who is it for?
I have particular experience of social work, education and the helping professions, so TalkShift may be especially useful if you work in one of those worlds. But you don’t have to.
You don’t need a diagnosis, a crisis or even a particularly well-defined problem. You just need something you would find useful to talk through.
You can even begin with: “I’m not entirely sure why I’m here.” We can start there.
How does it work?
ShiftTalk takes place online.
An hour costs £25 during this Introductory Offer period
There are no packages to buy, no ongoing subscription and no expectation that you book another session. If another conversation would be useful, book one.
Sometimes one good conversation is enough.
You bring what matters. We’ll work out what the conversation needs to be.
